This is an antique
Nepalese hair clip with ornate, hand hammered repousse work
featuring a foliate design set with glass Ganeshas, meant to
represent the coral stone Ganeshas popular in India and Nepal.
This was once a
commonly found accessory for women across the middle hills of
Nepal, and would have been worn on any significant occasion but
certainly during weddings and festivals. Now days it is a
nearly extinct form of adornment, really only found in remote
villages or amongst older women who still dress in the
traditional way.
