This is a wonderful primitive mask. Isn't it amazing how a piece that really has relatively little carving can be so expressive and full of character?

This mask is crafted from a very dense and heavy wood, it has goggle-like eyes, a narrow nose and a moustache fashioned from fine grass.  It appears that there was once more grass forming a beard in the area of the chin, but it has been worn away. In good condition and showing considerable use, the photos make it appear lighter in color than it actually is.
