Detail Photos

This is a classic far Western Nepal shamanic mask. This is an old shamanic mask, with a scruffy beard of yak or horse tail hair, moustache of some other kind of soft, fine, downy unidentified animal fur. There is also human hair on the forehead. The mask has a trident (Nepali = trisul) on the forehead, which is a common shamanic symbol relating to the great god Shiva, a.k.a. Mahadeva. Mahadeva literally means Great God - Maha is great and Deva is god. Indeed it has that rough hewn shamanic look that some collectors specifically go after. This mask has some loss on the side.
