Detail Photos
An antique mask from
Nepal's mid-western middle hills. The mask is from the Gurung
tribe and exhibits a form that could be called "classic mid-west
middle hills". A realistic form that is simultaneously
primitive. Realistic in the overall shape of the face,
nose and ears, as well as some facial hair - including beard,
moustache remnants and eyebrows, but primitive in the sense that
there is no over embellishment of the eyes nor mouth. The
mask is very old, and has evolved a nice patina. There is
a hole in the cheek that has been worn smooth with rounded edges
and a bit of loss on the right eye. A top
notch piece for collectors searching for a middle hills mask the
incorporates classic middle hills styling.
