A
fantastic old pillar
carving from a Naga morung or long house. The morung or
dormitory system of housing single adults and adolescents was a
unique component of traditional Naga society. In such long
houses we would find large support pillars of the structure had
been adorned with tribal carvings such as the leopard as
we see here, but also mithun - the Naga's semi-domesticated
"buffalo", hornbill birds, snakes, warriors and also primitive
erotic carvings. This is a rare and wonderful piece of
Naga ethnographica for the serious collector or institution with
a Naga inventory.
