Detail Photos
An antique shawl
from the Chang Naga tribe. It has rings of cowries, and
weft squares of red dyed dog hair. The shawl itself is
cotton prepared on a back strap loom. Note the small
double row of cowries in the upper right, denoting the owners
status as a host of multiple community feasts.
Some loss along the
border of the shawl, but this is to be expected with the old
pieces of this kind.
