Detail Views
A
quintessential example of the double anthropomorphic figures
found in the far west of Nepal. It is generally understood that
this kind of imagery is an indication of spirit possession.
When a person is possessed by the deity or tutelary spirit this
is visualized rather like the god mounting the medium and the
vernacular Himalayan dialects use that sort of vocabulary to
describe spirit possession.. In
such a state the shamans skills of diagnosis and healing have
mystic or even divine fortification... they can see into the
future and reveal the past as well.
This type of imagery is seen in the mid and far west areas of
Nepal, and this figure would in all likelihood have been
a component of a shamanic shrine or the ritual embellishment for
some sort of power spot.
