Detail Photos
This piece, as can
be seen from the iconographic details, was made for phurba
practices based on the Hayagriva termas. It is brass and the
condition is very good, with some expected signs of wear and
age.
In the Tibetan Buddhist tantric tradition there is an ancient
practice that involves the subjugation of internal and external
malevolent forces with the use of ritual and empowered daggers,
known as phurbas. In the hands of tantric adepts, the phurba is
not just a dagger but rather a tangible manifestation of
powerful deities such as Dorje Phurba (Vajrakilaya) or Tamdrin
(Hayagriva).
